Chiropractor in Hurst TX Explains
Why Some Neck Pain Won't Go Away

Chiropractic Hurst TX Woman with Neck Pain

Do you suffer from neck pain in Hurst TX that just won't go away? Is it affecting your life and is now at the point where you need to do something about it? Maybe your friends and family have told you to go see a chiropractor, but you're still unsure of which route to go.

Neck pain is a very common complaint that we see in our office. At some point in our lives, most of us will suffer from neck pain that will require an evaluation by a chiropractor or other healthcare provider. Many people with neck pain choose to be evaluated in our office as chiropractic is a drugless, non-invasive option. These patients do not want the side effects of medications and they certainly want to avoid having surgery.

The Bone and Joint Decade 2000-2010 Task Force on Neck Pain and Its Associated Disorders offered this advice when it comes to managing neck pain.

  • Don't expect to find a single cause of your neck pain.
  • Stay as active as you can, exercise and reduce mental stress.
  • A variety of therapies, including Advanced Chiropractic Methods, may be needed.

Most patients who receive treatment in our office for neck pain don't know what "caused" their condition. Neck pain is often caused by multiple small events over a period of time and is not typically due to one specific cause. While finding the exact cause of your neck pain may be difficult, this simple exercise may help.

Before beginning any neck stretching or exercise program, it's recommended that you consult with a healthcare professional such as chiropractor. This allows you to get an accurate diagnosis for what is producing the pain. This is important because not all neck pain comes from the same source and different types of stretches and exercises may be needed.

Neck Glide

This exercise can be done multiple times per day. You can be sitting at your desk at work or sitting in the car. Repeating this exercise develops good postural habits. This exercise also stretches the muscles on the front and back of the neck and increases neck mobility allowing you to turn your head easier with more control. You should not feel any pain while performing this exercise and you should always use slow, smooth movements to avoid injury.

Position: Sit with your back straight and feet flat.

Action: Keep your chin level and slowly move your head forward and backward. Reach with your chin straight forward and then back. Maintain a straight back. Proper position of your head and neck is the key to results with this exercise. 2 sets of 10 repetitions.

Modified Version: Lie with your back on the floor. Maintain your head in a neutral position. Slowly press your neck flat against the floor.

Pro Tip: Imagine holding a plate on top of your head while moving your head forward and backward and find a focal point at eye level. This may help you maintain a straight head and level chin.
